Review: Janet Jackson “Number Ones: Up, Close and Personal” Tour

Well, I knew that the Sade concert would be tough act to follow. However, I thought that Janet Jackson of all people would be able to pull it off and deliver an entertaining show for her fans, but I was wrong. The concert turned out to be one huge disappointment. For one, the show only lasted for about an hour. I don’t know about the rest of you, but if I pay close to $300 for a ticket, I expect at least two hours. But wait, that’s not all! The music was so loud that it drowned out Janet’s vocals, which I might add were lip-synched. She took so many breaks and showed too many video/movie clips. The concert felt very rushed. She performed a medley of all of her songs except for a few, which made it difficult to enjoy the songs. There was no opening act, which was fine with me, but the bottom line is that Sade’s concert left me wanting more. I didn’t feel that way at Janet’s concert. My family and I spent days and weeks talking about how amazing the Sade concert was. Janet’s concert? Not so much. On the other hand, there were some highlights of the concert. We sat in the orchestra pit — row 5, so we had an awesome view and she did start on time, which was a little surprising to me. Ultimately, however, I felt cheated. Don’t get me wrong; I still like Janet as an artist and will continue to listen to her music. I was just disappointed in her performance. I expect more from Janet because she’s always been known for being a great entertainer. Please keep in mind that these are my own personal opinions.

(Disclaimer: I took this picture at the concert. If you’d like to use it, please give credit. Thanks!)
