Ann Arbor fifth-grader helps choking friend by performing Heimlich manuever

Carter Altruda, fifth-grader at Eberwhite Elementary School, sprang into action to save the life of a choking schoolmate.

Carter is the son of Matt Altruda, host of Tree Town Sounds on WQKL 107.1 FM.

Last Friday, Carter’s best friend began choking on an apple during lunch. Without hesitation, Carter came to the rescue, performing the Heimlich maneuver on his friend, which caused to him to cough out the apple.
