Princess Gabbara is a multimedia journalist, who has contributed to a host of national publications, including EBONY Magazine, EBONY.com, Jetmag.com, Essence.com, Greatist, BlackDoctor.org, xoJane.com, The Glamazons Blog and Sesi — the only magazine covering the Black girl’s mainstream. Her work has also been featured on MediaBistro.com, HelloBeautiful.com, BET.com, People.com, and Huffington Post Women.
Princess has always been passionate about writing and telling stories. Growing up, she would reenact newscasts and obsess over (and collect) the then-latest issues of her favorite magazines. YM and Cosmo Girl, anyone?
Not too long after pursuing journalism as a career in 2011, Princess began writing for The Schoolcraft Connection – her campus newspaper. The moment she hit “send” on her first story, she realized that telling meaningful stories is what she was born to do. Though Princess wasn’t with the team long enough to become an editor, she left a lasting impression on the staff. In the short time they had her, she became a workhorse, taking on and successfully completing every story they could throw at her for the final few issues of the year. Typically, writers were only allowed to take on one or two assignments at a time. With Princess, that number was four or five.
Since then, Princess has tackled a plethora of topics, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, LGBTQ+ issues and eating disorders, while also interviewing several industry experts and celebrities, including Karl Malone and Tom Joyner along the way. She’s currently the things-to-do reporter at The Lansing State Journal, part of the USA Today network. Needless to say, Princess is just getting started.
